Since January of 1993, Bert Moore has been the Director of IDAT Consulting & Education, a Hickory, NC-based firm that helps companies understand, evaluate, select, develop, and implement automatic identification and data collection (AIDC) solutions. IDAT is one of the few technology- and vendor-independent consulting firms in the country. [Previously locations Pittsburgh, PA 1993-2003 and Alpharetta, GA 2003-2009.]
In addition, he performs marketing communications for selected clients and writes for a number of industry publications.
Communications projects include design and production of magazine ads, brochures, sales collateral and trade show exhibit material as well as technical documentation. Clients have included small, privately-held companies as well as major corporations such as UPS and RPS.
He currently edits AIM Connections and RFID Connections e-newsletters. He was formerly a contributing editor to Material Handling Management (formerly Material Handling Engineering), Automatic ID News and ID Systems Magazine; and served as managing editor of Parcel Shipping & Distribution and ScanJournal. He also wrote, edited and/or produced a number of corporate and industry newsletters.
He has chaired or served on industry, national and international standards committees that developed many of today's AIDC standards. He served as the lead industry expert in the 1996 Department of Defense's Automatic Identification Technologies Cross-Disciplinary Study for Personnel ID. He co-managed a study on ID card technology funded by the U.S. Immigration Service and consulted on a testing program for 2D symbols on shipping containers, both conducted at the University of Pittsburgh.
A 1992 recipient of the AIM USA Industry Service Award, Moore was further recognized within the industry by being selected as a charter member of AIDC 100, a peer-based organization of individuals who have made significant contributions to education or technical advancement within the AIDC industry. He has over 500 by-lined articles and columns as well as nearly 100 professional presentations to his credit.
